"Imperceptions" (The Laments of an Iceberg)

I stood, and "withstood", for ages
Surviving the fears and the tears,
I reigned at the North and at the South
Tough. Unwavering. Detached.

I was and I am,
Overwater and under;
A part of me is floating,
But my much larger part, concealed

My face is seen as a lifeless chunk,
Cold, miserable, dangerous
Always avoided.
Forever, misunderstood.
